Placage

Definition

Désigne tout élément décoratif exogène formant relief à la surface d’un bronze, et non pas affleurant comme les incrustations. Une grande variété de matériaux et de techniques peuvent être mises en œuvre.

Note: Le terme placage est ambigu, car fait également référence au placage métallique (LINK to be made with METAL COATING). Dans les arts décoratifs, on emploiera ce terme plutôt en fonction de l'épaisseur : le placage désigne les épaisseurs importantes, de 5 à 50 microns. Il n'existe à notre connaissance aucun mot français pour traduire exactement le terme anglais "overlay".
